Report from the inaugural
    Multiplex Fun Fly Day

The Model Engines' Multiplex Fun Fly held at P&DARCS field in Victoria turned out to be a fantastic event with eager Multiplex owners battling it out with one another, often in stitches caused by laughter.

Model Engines Managing Director Mike Farnan, ably assisted by Neil Addicott and Cliff Fiddes ran a series of fun events.
The Carrier and Spot Landings were hotly contested and made all the more interesting with a slight cross breeze.  Winner of the Carrier Landing event was the editor and chief of RCM News, Stephen Green, who against the odds after leaving his Mode 2 transmitter at home, borrowed a Mode 1 transmitter and flew with it to victory.  Now that was impressive! Equally impressive was Cameron Sexton who although being a junior, secured second place.

Cameron's father won the spot landing after ex-Hawthorn Hobbies proprietor, Cliff McGivor flipped his plane on landing to lose!  This probably received the biggest laugh of the day.

The longest flight with a 30 second motor run came down to a fly-off between P&DARCS locals Rolly Gaumann and the unflappable Cliff McGivor.  Cliff got off to a huge advantage with an awesome motor run to be about 100m higher than Rolly when the motors were shut off.  Rolly flew his Multiplex Solius beautifully, and it was neck and neck as the gliders were trying to stay aloft over the strip.  With only meters of height between them, Cliff landed right in front of the crowd and simultaneously Rolly let off a cry of delight as he landed seconds later.

Lunch was catered for by the club and shortly after came the most anticipated event, as we all wanted to see who had the fastest Multiplex FunJet.  With electric specialists Mani Riederich and Mark Jacobs entered, it was going to be a battle for the top spot!  Mark provided extra entertainment by using a bungy to launch his FunJet, to the delight of the gathered crowd.

Mani using a conservative 4 cell LiPo set up clocked a very respectable 234km/h, but Mark blew that away with his 5 cell LiPo set up producing 270.7km/h to give him the win and a $50 cash prize.

The final event was a record attempt to see how many Multiplex foam aircraft we could get in the air at one time. The answer was 19 and even with that many planes in a very small area of sky, everyone landed safely.

Being the first Multiplex Fun Fly event held in Australia, it has certainly shown us the event is viable and when word gets around just how much fun it was, the Model Engines crew are sure the next event will be bigger and better.

A big thank-you to all who attended and to P&DARCS for allowing the event to take over their field for 3 hours on  Sunday 21st of February.

Prize Winners (L to R): Cameron Sexton (Junior), Gavin Sexton, Mark Jacobs, Model Engines'  MD Mike Farnan, Rolly Gaumann, Andrew Fleming (Junior) who won the $200 pre-entry prize and RCM News Stephen Green who kindly gave his Carrier Landing prize to second placed Cameron Sexton.  Nice gesture Stephen!  Mike also gave a couple of encouragement awards to the juniors, with Cameron receiving an Ares Fokker DVII and Andrew receiving a Multiplex Panda sport.  They were both very happy young men!

Apologies for my premature announcement last month.
Ares V-Hawks have been delayed in China!

http://www.modelengines.com.au/libraries/images/eMarketing March 2016/V-Hawk_X4 flying forward with Hitec Red[1].jpg
Last month I reported in M.E. News, the Ares V-Hawk will be in the warehouse next week...

With the best laid plans of getting the V-Hawks shipped before Chinese New Year, it simply didn't happen, so for that I apologise. The good news is the Chinese factories and freight forwarders have now returned to work, so we expect to receive confirmation soon that they are on the water.

Fingers crossed, they should be in the warehouse in early to mid-April.

The Ares Z-Line V-Hawk X4 is designed for pilots who are looking for a unique flying experience — the ability to take off vertically like a helicopter or quad-copter and transition to flying like an airplane. This flying transition is made easy with the use of a pre-installed, innovative flight control board and pre-assembled rotating motor nacelles. With just the flip of a channel switch on your transmitter the motor nacelles rotate. As they do, the flight controller automatically changes the programming from flying like a quad to flying like an air plane with elevon controls. Simply flip the switch back to return to quad-flying mode.

The V-Hawk X4 is available in two versions that incorporate the reliable new Hitec Red 2.4GHz radio protocol that's compatible with most Hitec systems already on the market. Choose either Ready-To-Fly (including a Hitec Red-enabled transmitter and receiver) or Pair-To-Fly (packaged with a Hitec Red receiver that’s compatible with your existing Hitec 2.4GHz aircraft transmitter).

In addition to the RTF and PTF versions, the V-Hawk is also available in RFR (Ready-For-Receiver) form for customers who already have their own radio system.

The V-Hawk X4’s durable EPO airframe comes nearly 100% pre-assembled and includes all four BL motors, four BL ESCs, a control board with stabilization, two 9g servos, one 17g MG servo, and even a 1300mAh 4S Li-Po battery (4S charger not included). The only assembly you’ll have to complete is gluing on the tail, and even the glue is included!

So, if you’re ready to take on the adventure of an air plane capable of performing vertical take-offs and landings (VTOL), and short take-offs and landings (STOL), the Ares Z-Line V-Hawk X4 is the air plane for you.
